In a room filled with mingling family and playing children, my Grandmother sits idly across the room. Silently sitting, she witnesses the room go on around her. Pinching the couch’s weathered fabric, mindlessly enjoying the texture between her fingers. It is in observing a moment like this I feel most inspired to create. I strive to build tableaus of these moments or weave their emotional impressions into my dance works.
I invite my collaborators to bring their own interests and histories into my creative process as we generate movement and sculpt together. Making work where it remains a communal vessel that carries our shared, creative experience and individual stories is crucial to me. By building from these inspiring instances I gather from daily life, I hope to transport audiences to these moments to find something for themselves.
